Holy, Moly, Me, Oh, My! Another year has just flown by! (A little poetry to start the day! Impressive, eh?)
On July 6th, my daughter, Mica, turned two. What a wonderful year of milestones… she went from walking to running, from babbling to talking and from agreeable to opinionated! And I have seriously loved every minute (well, almost every minute… we do have our moments.). She is developing into such a fun-loving, little girl who says the darndest things and I smile and laugh… a lot. It is such a blessing to be her mom.
But, there is something you should know about me as a mom… I am not a mom who bakes cookies, does endless art projects and plans “play dates!” I guess I am just not wired that way. We do have fun and know how to be silly, but I am no Martha Stewart or Betty Crocker. Most of those who know me would easily agree. And, over the last two years, I have become ok with that – even though I sometimes feel like the world expects certain things from Mom’s and I don’t always fit that mold. But, with all that thrown to the wind… when July 6th rolls around… I strive to be “SUPER MOM!” Because I love birthdays and I love my little girl!
There is just something about birthdays… It is a day just for you! And so, on July 6th, I want Mica to always feel celebrated, special and loved – always. I want it to be a magical day. And that may not mean pink ponies and castles in the sky… but it does mean that I will bake, blow up balloons, hang streamers and try to make it extra special.
Last year, it was all about Monkeys. (Check it out here) Her first understandable sound was in response to “What does a monkey say?” “Ooo-ooo-ee-ahh-ahh!” … and so the theme of the cupcakes last year.
This year, I asked her if she wanted to invite anyone special to her birthday party? She always answered, immediately, with the same name – SAM!
Sam, has always had a special place in her heart. Mica loves dogs, but to say she just loves Sam is an understatement. So, we sent out an invitation to Sam… and thankfully he was able to make it!
From there… the dog theme evolved.Puppy cupcakes…
Dog bone garland… yes, a little over the top… and I loved it! Granted, my husband thought I had mentally lost it!
I used these dog bone cookies (note baking attempt #2!) for name cards around the table… clever? Super mom, yet?
But the party was fun… and I love that Mica still tells me, a month later, that on her birthday she had a puppy cake! And that her cousin Lars ate the nose.
And, being two, and so grown up… she now loves unwrapping presents!
But, the extra special birthday gift this year… her very own Sam… who she calls “Sam, Sam”
Ending a fun afternoon with some great birthday hugs!
… and so I tuck those baking pans into the back of the cabinet, once again, and the world will wait, for SUPER MOM (or the endless pursuit of trying to be SUPER MOM!) to make another appearance, next year… on July 6th.
I love you, Mica! Just loads and loads! …and loads! Happy Birthday, you sweet two-year old!
