It’s Movember! {Raising awareness for Men’s Health}

It’s Movember, people! Yup, the month of mustaches on our men. And I have to admit, I have never been a fan of mustaches… nope, just not a fan. (And I know I am not alone here!) BUT – without a doubt – I am a HUGE fan of the fact that this month of dedicated facial hair is all in the name of keeping these guys and all our guys… HEALTHY!

I. AM. IN!

Ahh, yes. Movember. 🙂 During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of mustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. And if it gets just one man to the doctor sooner and raises important $$… well done men. (movember.com) Well. Done.

So, this morning it began…November 1.

My husband, Bill, is a family practice doctor and so you can imagine that this issue is close to his heart. But, truth is… we have all been personally impacted. A close call. A death. Someone we love.

The mustache that will be walking around our house on my husband’s face this month is dedicated to his Uncle John. A soft-spoken, kind, kind man, who always wore a mustache. Always. A huge athlete. Strong. Healthy. And diagnosed with colon cancer in his 40’s and died far too young. John, we miss you. Especially Bill. We hate that cancer won and took you away from us.

But, I smile because I think Uncle John would be proud of Bill’s Mo and that is why I am too… I think he would jab him in the ribs, give him a hard-time – whispering something sarcastic under his breath that only Bill could hear… but he would be proud. 🙂

So, as you see those crazy stashes this month… give those men a smile. Feed that bravado and help make a difference. And if you feel moved, learn more (movember.com), wear a mustache … and if you can’t – donate to the initiative right on the movember website (movember.com)

… and all you guys that Bill recruited to join him… you rock!

XO

Mo Sista (I didn’t make it up… yup, a female Movember supporter!)

Ahh, yes. A man and his facial hair. Love the attitude and love, love you, Love.
