Ouch! Don’t sit on a cactus! {Denver and Golden, CO Family and Children’s Lifestyle Photographer}

So, you know those children’s cartoons… where the silly character unexpectedly lands in a cactus and screeches “Yahoooo” as they launch into the air from the pain and surprise? Yea… let’s just say I now know what it feels like to be one of them. Sad, but true. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.

Ya see, when you have one eye shut and the other looking through the tiny viewfinder of your camera, you lose your peripheral vision. Then when you decide to move around… not willing to take the camera off your eye – because  the moment is happening and you don’t want to miss capturing it… let’s just say – things can happen.  😀

… and on this day, I was capturing the sweetness between big sister and little bro and .. well, eye up to the camera – I backed up and… landed in a cactus. OUCHHHHH! I pulled my hand out of the cactus and saw thousands… yes, thousands of cactus spines. I pulled out as many as I could, brushed it off like it was no big deal. (Inside thoughts: WHAT? Expletive. Expletive. You idiot and OUCH!!!!)  and also knew they were all down my left leg too. Noooooooo.

But, the show must go on, right? The shoot was not over. I still had shots I wanted to grab and was not about to cut it short due to some dumb move I made. So, I put on my big girl panties (Ya gotta do that sometimes.) and finished the shoot and was so glad I did… we got some great stuff. 😀

THEN… when I got in my car. I sighed… and googled. “How to get a large number of cactus spines out of skin” I mean, where else could I turn? Google. Needless to say, the great world wide web had the answer, although I was a skeptic. I dashed home and grabbed the Elmer’s school glue out of my 5 year old’s desk and slathered a thin layer all over my hand. Let it dry as I went to go pick up my kids from school waving my hand out the window to quicken the drying… and when I got home, slowwwwwwly peeled off the glue. (I don’t know about you, but I did this all the time in school – felt cool peeling off your glue “skin”… so I was not a rookie.) 😀 But… WHAT? It worked (!?!?!?) Thank my stars! Thank my holy, macaroni, stars above. I did it a few more times and it pulled out all but a few spines… I was sane again.

So, I tell you this… not because I think it will happen to you, but because – ya never know… and I was impressed it worked. So, you are welcome. I, however, hope to never experience it again… and will be much more aware of the cactus around me. 😀

But, sure loved this family. They were as wonderful as could be and even more wonderful when they saw my, oh so graceful, beautiful dive into the cactus…and laughed with me when I said, “We will speak of this incident to no one”… And now I am blogging about it. HA!

This family was awesome! The eyes on their little man…GAH!  You could dive into those brown eyes and swim for days.

This shot below is the exact photo I took right as I landed in the cactus… See? I couldn’t stop the shoot now… too much sweetness!
